OUR APPROACH

The Imago Rehab Approach

Our approach to stroke rehab involves teaching our clients to think like therapists during their everyday tasks. By focusing on the skills you need to function in your daily life, you will learn how to integrate practice throughout your day, leading to increased progress. Our sessions will not only promote the recovery of your arm's function, but our therapists will also equip you with strategies for adapting tasks and situations to achieve your goals.

Whether your stroke was weeks, months, or many years ago, it is never too late to start. Our program will show you that there is no time limit on recovery!

Your Initial Evaluation

Your therapy with Imago Rehab starts with a detailed assessment of your current situation and specific needs. Our therapists will measure your baseline abilities before therapy begins and then collaborate with you to understand your personal goals for therapy and build a plan for long-term success.

We understand that each individual's recovery is unique, so we create individual occupational and physical therapy plans tailored to the patient's abilities and challenges.

Your Custom Telerehab Program

To address your specific challenges, individual sessions will work on stretching, positioning, and performing specific movements as you complete your daily activities at home. These home-based occupational and physical therapy sessions will give you the skills and tools you need to try new things, stay on track with home practice, face challenges as they arise, and achieve your goals.

Each of our sessions are conducted online which eliminates the challenges and inconvenience of traveling to an outpatient rehab facility. Sessions are conducted via Zoom and, before each session, your therapist will send you a meeting link to join the virtual session using a computer or a tablet.

Tips to make your Imago Rehab a success

  1. Make a therapy basket of common supplies to use during your therapy session so it's ready to go for therapy.

  2. Find a quiet space with a table and enough room to move around.

  3. Consistently follow up with your therapist via email.

  4. Consistently fill out your home program tracker and complete your exercises.

Telerehab best practices

  1. Practice using zoom before the session to make sure your audio and video work.

  2. If you don’t know how to use Zoom, let us know, and we will provide training before your session.

  3. Have a therapy basket of items (see above), along with items requested by your therapist, near where you do therapy and ready to go before your session starts.

  4. Use the self-video as a mirror to watch yourself during movements.

  5. If possible, use two screens (use phone and laptop) to see two angles of movement.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

When will I recover from my stroke?

Every stroke is different. What you put into your recovery is what you get out of it. Stroke recovery is not linear, and you may experience periods of strong recovery and periods seeming like “plateaus" - but the most important thing is to keep moving forward.

How do I communicate with my loved ones about my stroke and my needs?

The best thing is to be open and honest. Your loved one or caregiver wants to support you, but may not know how. Make your needs known and be direct, while appreciating the effort they put in. Stroke recovery is incredibly hard, but you don’t have to do it alone. Join support groups (including Imago Rehab’s Community Group, every other Wednesday) and have your loved ones join support groups too.

How can I participate in telehealth services if I don’t use the computer or phone that much?

How can I do therapy at home without equipment?

Imago Rehab occupational therapists use a “life is therapy” method, meaning everything you do or want to do in your daily life is therapeutic. Using everyday, common, familiar items that you use or intend to use is the best way to maximize your recovery. Check out our “therapy basket” recommendations for more ideas on what to use for therapy. There are some adaptive equipment options that can be helpful and found on Amazon for typically less than $30. Ask your therapist for recommendations as well.

My affected arm after my stroke has essentially no movement. Would Imago Rehab still be able to help me in my recovery?

Yes! We have helped many people with little to no movement recover some function in their affected arm and hand. Our specialized therapists are skilled in assisting the various levels of stroke recovery.
