Frequently Asked Questions
When will I recover from my stroke?
Every stroke is different. What you put into your recovery is what you get out of it. Stroke recovery is not linear, and you may experience periods of strong recovery and periods seeming like “plateaus" - but the most important thing is to keep moving forward.
How do I communicate with my loved ones about my stroke and my needs?
The best thing is to be open and honest. Your loved one or caregiver wants to support you, but may not know how. Make your needs known and be direct, while appreciating the effort they put in. Stroke recovery is incredibly hard, but you don’t have to do it alone. Join support groups (including Imago Rehab’s Community Group, every other Wednesday) and have your loved ones join support groups too.
How can I participate in telehealth services if I don’t use the computer or phone that much?
We typically set up a brief Zoom meeting with you and instruct you on the different features of Zoom and expectations. Our clinicians are skilled in using Zoom on different devices and are able to instruct you on proper methods of accessing Zoom over the phone.
How can I do therapy at home without equipment?
Imago Rehab occupational therapists use a “life is therapy” method, meaning everything you do or want to do in your daily life is therapeutic. Using everyday, common, familiar items that you use or intend to use is the best way to maximize your recovery. Check out our “therapy basket” recommendations for more ideas on what to use for therapy. There are some adaptive equipment options that can be helpful and found on Amazon for typically less than $30. Ask your therapist for recommendations as well.
My affected arm after my stroke has essentially no movement. Would Imago Rehab still be able to help me in my recovery?
Yes! We have helped many people with little to no movement recover some function in their affected arm and hand. Our specialized therapists are skilled in assisting the various levels of stroke recovery.
